Highlights

  • Stellanbosch: Ahhh, to sample the good wines of the Western Cape! Only our second wine tour since visiting the Hunter Valley in 2004, we still had a lot to learn about the sample, swish and spit technique to avoid the disastrous effects of mixing too many wines on a cracker filled stomach. Big thanks to Gian at Neetlingshof who had the time and patience to answer our incessant questioning, from oak barrels, to maturing to wine estates vs winerys to how many grams of sugar in a dessert wine (too many, too sweet). It’s a complicated and interesting business – and it tastes damn good!

  • Goodbye Gordons Bay: Thank you Michelle and Naks for putting up with us for so long and allowing us the time to recollect before the next leg of our trip.  Thank you for the more than comfortable place and for the words and advice. We really appreciate it.

  • Our last weekend in Cape Town, proved to be as lovely as Cape Town itself. Kicking off with the expression session at Ragazzi bar and showing our support for amazing South African talent; film-maker Lukanyo, singer Katherine Traut and DJ Juice. Thanks to DJ Juice for playing old school tunes on Saturday night – great to be back on the dance floor!

  • Another gorgeous sunset at Blue Peter Hotel in Blouberg accompanied by pink clouds, kite surfers and the good company of Mazza!
  • Finally we trek up table mountain through Platteklip gorge uphill from 400m to 1050m to be met by a vast flatplateau – luckily uncovered by the “tablecloth” cloud which can often by seen draping over the mountain.

  • Franschhoek Motor Museum; dream museum for Nick filled with antique cars dated back to the 1900′s to Nicks favourite and the current models of Porsche Carrera GT and Maclaren F1.

  • Massive thanks to Margaret, Yasemin and Dobbie for their excellent company inPinelands and for so comfortably hosting us. What a pleasure to have met you all!

  • We rock out of South Africa with the Rocking the Daisies festival at Darling, Kloof wine estate. We pitch up our tent amongst thousands of others for the 3 day and 2 night festival where highlight acts include: The #1 Hip Hop DJ in SA – Ready D (awe, awe, awe – best of the fest), The Idan Raichel project (comprising of talent from across the globe), the New young pony club hailing from the UK and  HHP who made the circle bigger. We survived on Falafel pitas and good times all weekend.

  • Our last stop in SA at Jamaka Organic Farm in Clanwilliam echoed the warmth and good nature of the people of SA. Jannie and Katrin are wonderful people we feel so blessed to have met and hope to meet again. We still have litres of the fresh cederberg spring water to take with us through Africa as a reminder of how our stay with you has refreshed us.
